Frequently Asked Questions

What is Color Guard?

Color Guard brings music to life through performance in a competitive format.  It involves an array of equipment, movement and skill.  Color Guard is rooted in military history but the use of flags, rifles and sabers is the only thing that is traditional.  Color Guard serves many purposes but the most useful purpose is to bear your colors with pride.

During the fall semester, Color Guard members participate and compete in parades and field shows that take place throughout Southern California.  Parades occur on city streets and combine competition with community enrichment.  Field shows are performed on football fields during half time and at competitions.  Both field shows and parades are put on with the marching band.

In Color Guard, the spring semester is called Winter Guard.  Winter Guard team members compete with a 3-4 minute routine utilizing recorded music.  Competitions take place inside the gym without the marching band.

Is Color Guard a sport?

Color Guard has been called the "Sports of the Arts."  Members receive P.E. credit for the fall semester during their sophomore and junior years and Fine Arts credit for the spring semesters.

Who joins Color Guard?
