Fundraisers

Fundraising is an indispensable part of any successful Instrumental Music and Color Guard program. Funds raised supplement District monies, reduce the size of student donation requests, and allow for the sustainment and improvement of our music and color guard programs which directly benefit our students. We have a number of fundraisers that we do all year round, others that we do annually, and still other fundraisers we do when the time seems right. There are many opportunities for our musicians, color guard, and their families to participate in these fundraisers – select two or three or more – and join the fun.

Team Angel

Team Angel

As a Team Angel volunteer, we assist customers at Fashion Valley Shopping Center by answering basic directional and informational questions, passing out coupons, and carrying packages to shoppers’ cars. We will be trained, outfitted, and supplied with two-way radios. Our students will be in pairs or threesomes. Team Angel is a program where we volunteer to be shoppers’ holiday “angels” and Fashion Valley donates approximately $800 to help our music and color guard programs. We need a minimum of 14 volunteers (7 must be adults) to participate. We meet at the front parking lot at 11:45am, parent volunteers drive the students to Fashion Valley, and the students return by 6:30pm. All volunteers need to wear black pants and shoes, and a white shirt - t-shirt, polo, without print showing. Fashion Valley gives each person a vest to wear for the day. Bring money to buy yourself a meal and drink. Students sign up at school. For more information, contact our Team Angel Coordinator: this position is open.

Car Wash

Every student is encouraged to volunteer for at least 2 hours per car wash and talk to people about bringing their cars. Dress comfortably, wear sunscreen, and come ready to work or show your spirit holding signs. Car Washes will be scheduled throughout the year at different locations. For more information, contact our Car Wash Coordinator: this position is open.

Rummage Sale

We need everyone to plan ahead and set-aside items to donate to our Rummage Sales (a.k.a, Garage Sale and Yard Sale). Rummage Sales will be scheduled throughout the year. Parent volunteers will be required to help collect, transport, and price the items and run the sale. For more information, contact our Rummage Sale Coordinator: Sue Whitaker, sue@leaddogs.org

Horse Apple Drop

HAD logo

This annual event may be our largest and most fun fundraiser of the year. Our band and color guard families are responsible for selling raffle tickets with first, second and third place prizes of $1000, $500, and $250, respectively. Prize winners are determined at the Horse Apple Drop, where we have arranged for a number of horses to spend some time, in a local corral, after having been well-fed. The corral is divided into squares - each square corresponds to a randomly selected raffle ticket. The first horse that "drops an apple" in a square determines the first place winner. The second and third apple drops determine the second and third place winners. In addition to the excitement of sighting the first apple drop, event attendees enjoy the barbeque, DJ music, and fun-filled family games. Click here for 2009-2010 Horse Apple Drop Rules & Information. Horse Apple Drop Winners for 2009 were: $1000 Rob Ripley (ticket sold by Chris); $500 Cortes Family (ticket sold by Arielle); and $250 Neysa Collings (ticket sold by Jolene). For more information, contact our Horse Apple Drop Coordinator: Carl Reed, reedc2004@cox.net .

Gift Cards (Scrip)

scrip logo

What Is Scrip?
Scrip means “substitute money”. When you purchase scrip, you’re purchasing prepaid gift cards and negotiable gift certificates that are used just like cash. You can use scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials, and with every purchase, you earn revenue for the Valhalla Band and Color Guard.

How scrip generates revenue for Valhalla Band and Color Guard
The Great Lakes Scrip Center acts on behalf of churches, schools and other non profit organizations to purchase large amounts of scrip from grocery stores, department stores, and other retailers. Because the scrip is purchased with cash up front, the participating retailers offer a substantial discount. Our organization, the Rancho San Diego Music Founcation (RSDMF), buys the scrip from Great Lakes Scrip Center at a discount, and re-sells the certificates to families like yours for full face value. The discount from two to fifteen percent or more – is revenue for the Valhalla Band and Color Guard.

Scrip is a popular fundraiser because families don’t have to sell anything. RSDMF members produce revenue by making regular household purchases they would make anyway. Groceries, clothing, toys, gifts, even gasoline can be purchased with scrip.

eScrip

Help our Marching Band and Color Guard without having to do more than you already are doing. A onetime sign up with eScrip will help our Marching Band and Color Guard every time you shop. It is safe and easy. Register your gas, food, or other credit cards and every time you shop, money goes automatically to us. It does not come out of your purchase or pocket. It costs you nothing.

What is the eScrip Program?
Participating merchants contribute each time our families make a purchase using their grocery club or registered credit cards. There are no receipts to collect, no vouchers or certificates to buy, no hassles for you - and every purchase counts.

How does it work?
eScrip has created a system that rewards customer loyalty by contributing a percentage of purchases made by participating families to school based groups. Parents, teachers, friends and families are encouraged to register their grocery club cards (e.g., Vons Club), and existing credit/debit cards as supporters. A percentage of all purchases made at eScrip merchants will be given back to the RSDMF.

To register please go to www.escrip.com
Our eScrip name: Rancho San Diego Music Foundation
Our eScrip #: 152085450

If your office or place of business does not recycle these items, please consider collecting them to support our fundraising efforts while helping to keep our earth green. Firewood Sale

Fire Wood

2010 Firewood Sale Price List

Amount Hardwood Mixed Wood
1/4 Cord TBD TBD
1/2 Cord TBD TBD
Full Cord TBD TBD

A cord of wood measures 8ft x 4ft x 4ft.

To place your firewood order call or email: Blair Laframboise, 619-992-0948, blaframboise@cox.net

What Is A Cord of Wood?
A cord of wood is measured as a wood pile stacked 8 feet by 4 feet by 4 feet.
Full Cord = 8ft x 4ft x 4ft = 128 cubic feet
1/2 Cord = 4ft x 4ft x 4ft = 64 cubic feet
1/4 Cord = 2ft x 4ft x 4ft = 32 cubic feet

Comparison Firewood Shopping
To compare the quantities of firewood we sell and the prices of firewood “bundles” you might buy from the grocery store, consider the following:

  • A grocery store bundle of firewood is typically less than 1 cubic foot
  • Assume the grocery store bundle costs $6 for 0.75 cubic feet of firewood (approx. 6 logs)
  • If you divide $6 by 0.75 cubic feet, the grocery store bundle will cost the equivalent of $8 per cubic foot
  • So, if you bought enough grocery store bundles to equate to a 1/4, 1/2, or full cord of firewood, you would spend:
    $8 x 32 cubic feet = $256 for a 1/4 Cord
    $8 x 64 cubic feet = $512 for a 1/2 Cord
    $8 x 128 cubic feet = $1,024 for a Full Cord
