Course Description

String Orchestra is offered to any student who has a desire to play a traditional string orchestra instrument (i.e., violin, viola, cello, string  bass).  It is offered to those who know how to play already and to those who wish to learn how to play.  The instrumental music program provides most instruments.  This group is a specialized ensemble that performs many styles of string literature - classical to contemporary.  This ensemble is active in both the Full and String Orchestra.  In the spring, the group combines with select wind players to create the Concert Orchestra.  Because of the performance nature of this class, participation in rehearsals and performances before, during and after the regular school day is a mandatory part of the course curriculum.  Promotion to Advanced Orchestra is by teacher recommendation only.
